Conference Director

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all conference planning and execution activities
  • Manage Content & Programming, Venue & Logistics, and Technical Operations managers
  • Coordinate with Operations Director to ensure alignment with organizational goals
  • Ensure successful event delivery on-time and within budget
  • Lead conference team meetings and maintain accountability

Meeting & Reporting Requirements:

  • Conduct team meetings no less than once monthly until one month prior to conference
  • Increase meeting frequency to weekly when one month out from conference
  • Submit monthly written reports to Board of Directors, preferably after team meetings
  • Submit weekly reports to Board of Directors when one month out from conference
  • Collaborate regularly with Operations Director on planning and execution

Success Metrics:

  • Positive attendee feedback scores
  • On-time execution of conference tasks and deliverables
  • On or under budget performance
  • Positive volunteer and staff feedback
  • Overall growth of BSides Charlotte main event by attendee count
  • Smooth event operations with minimal incidents
  • Successful speaker and workshop programming

Leadership Expectation:

  • Provide directives and guidance to team leads rather than performing tasks directly
  • Step in to complete tasks when staffing gaps exist or issues are not being effectively addressed
  • Ensure accountability across all conference operations
  • Make time-sensitive decisions during event planning and execution
  • Foster collaborative environment among conference teams
