Communications & Press Leadership Team


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all communications channels and messaging
  • Manage relationships with media and press
  • Handle press inquiries and media relations
  • Manage all social media accounts (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, BlueSky, etc)
  • Monitor social media trends and conversations
  • Track social media metrics and engagement
  • Engage with community members and respond to inquiries
  • Maintain and update BSides Charlotte website
  • Ensure website security and performance
  • Implement new features and functionality as needed
  • Manage domain registration and hosting
  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns for events
  • Work with Board of Directors on annual major event theme selection
  • Create or work with designers to create promotional materials and graphics
  • Coordinate advertising and promotional partnerships
  • Track marketing effectiveness and ROI
  • Support sponsor visibility initiatives

Key Activities:

  • Develop communications calendar and content strategy
  • Draft and distribute press releases
  • Coordinate interviews and media appearances
  • Manage crisis communications if needed
  • Track media coverage and communications metrics
  • Perform regular website updates and maintenance
  • Monitor website for security risks and address them in a timely fashion
  • Monitor website analytics and performance
  • Troubleshoot technical issues
  • Update event information, schedules, and speaker bios
  • Ensure mobile responsiveness and accessibility
  • Backup website data regularly
  • Design or work with designers to create flyers, digital ads, and promotional materials
  • Coordinate email marketing campaigns
  • Develop marketing timeline and promotional schedule
  • Work with Community Outreach Lead on cross-promotion opportunities
  • Create content for social media campaigns
  • Work with the Registration & Check-In Lead to track event registration and ticket sales metrics
  • Ensure events published to all relevant calendars and boards

Time Commitment:

  • Varies by role and proximity to events
  • Expect increased time commitment as events approach
  • Most year-round roles: 2 – 5 hours per week
  • Event days typically require full-day commitment
