Social Media & Website Lead
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage all social media accounts (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Mastodon, etc.)
- Create and schedule social media content
- Engage with community members and respond to inquiries
- Monitor social media trends and conversations
- Track social media metrics and engagement
- Collaborate closely with greater Communication & Press team to ensure successful marketing and promotional activities
- Maintain and update BSides Charlotte website
- Ensure website security and performance
- Implement new features and functionality as needed
- Coordinate with Communications Manager on content updates
- Manage domain registration and hosting
- Collaborate closely with greater Communication & Press team to ensure successful marketing and promotional activities
Key Activities:
- Post regular updates about events, CFP deadlines, and community news
- Create graphics and visual content for social posts
- Respond to comments and direct messages
- Live-tweet or post during events
- Coordinate with Marketing Lead on promotional campaigns
- Report on social media performance metrics
- Perform regular website updates and maintenance
- Monitor website for security risks and address them in a timely fashion
- Monitor website analytics and performance
- Troubleshoot technical issues
- Update event information, schedules, and speaker bios
- Ensure mobile responsiveness and accessibility
- Backup website data regularly
Skills Required:
- Social media platform expertise

- Visual design skills (helpful)
- Responsiveness and engagement orientation
- Web development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Content management system knowledge

Time Commitment:
- Varies by role and proximity to events
- Expect increased time commitment as events approach
- Most year-round roles: 2 – 5 hours per week
- Event days typically require full-day commitment
